Cerebras’ Blockbuster Listing: Makes Nasdaq Debut With 68% Surge, Joins AI Billion-Dollar Club

Shares of Cerebras Systems jumped 68% in their Nasdaq debut on May 14, giving the artificial intelligence chipmaker a market valuation of around $95 billion. The company’s stock closed at $311.07 after pricing its initial public offering at $185 per share, much above the expected range.
Shares opened at $350, climbed as high as $386 during the session and later pared some gains before the close. Cerebras is trading under ticker symbol CBRS. The IPO was led by Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, Barclays and UBS.
Cerebras sold 30 million shares in the offering, raising $5.55 billion. This marks the largest IPO by a US technology company since the 2019 debut of Uber Technologies. Should underwriters exercise their option to purchase an additional 4.5 million shares, the total proceeds from the offering could rise to $6.38 billion.
AI Demand Drives Momentum
Cerebras has benefited from the ongoing boom in artificial intelligence, which has fuelled investor interest across the semiconductor industry. Many chipmakers, including Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and Micron Technology, have posted huge gains this year amid rising demand linked to AI technologies.
Competition With Nvidia
Cerebras faces strong competition from Nvidia, currently the world’s most valuable company. But it says its chip architecture delivers advantages in terms of both speed and pricing when compared with Nvidia’s graphics processing units.
In December, Nvidia spent $20 billion acquiring assets from startup Groq, whose chip designs are considered closer to those developed by Cerebras.
AI Listings Gathering Pace
Cerebras has become the largest pure-play AI company to debut on Wall Street and the first major technology flotation in months. The IPO arrives as investors prepare for a potential wave of AI-focused listings, including SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Both Amazon and OpenAI hold warrants to acquire Cerebras shares.
Cerebras’ IPO Journey
Cerebras first filed for an IPO in September 2024 but later withdrew its application after scrutiny over its heavy reliance on a single customer in the UAE, Microsoft-backed G42. The company returned with a fresh filing in April 2026. According to the updated prospectus, G42 accounted for 24% of revenue last year, down from 85% in 2024. However, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in the UAE contributed 62% of revenue during the same period.
Cerebras has also been shifting away from primarily selling hardware systems towards offering cloud-based services powered by its chips. That move places it in competition with cloud giants including Google, Microsoft, Oracle, and CoreWeave.
