Bitcoin Crosses $80,000 After Biggest Three-Day Rally Since 2023: What The Latest Crypto Surge Means For Investors

Bitcoin has crossed the $80,000 mark for the first time since May. The world's largest cryptocurrency has been rising sharply over the past week, along with several other major digital currencies.
It rose more than 2% to $80,501 on Tuesday and has gained more than 25% in the past week, according to CNBC. The latest rise comes after an even bigger jump last week. Bitcoin gained more than 20% in just three days. It was the cryptocurrency's biggest three-day rise since 2023.

Why is Bitcoin rising?
There are several reasons behind the latest Bitcoin rally and one of the biggest reasons is fresh investment in Bitcoin ETFs.
US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, received about $1.92 billion in net inflows last week. This was their biggest weekly inflow since October.
A Bitcoin ETF allows investors to get exposure to Bitcoin through a traditional investment product. They do not have to directly buy and hold the cryptocurrency themselves. When large amounts of money flow into these ETFs, it shows that investors are becoming more interested in Bitcoin.
Bitcoin's initial jump last week was also partly caused by a short squeeze. In addition to this, more than $4 billion in bearish crypto positions were liquidated as Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies surged.
Another important factor was that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans to increase purchases of longer-term US government bonds. Bitcoin is also increasingly being viewed by some investors as a scarce asset because its supply is limited.
Ray Dalio also warns about debt
Billionaire investor Ray Dalio recently warned about the possibility of a debt crisis. He said investors should reduce their exposure to debt-related assets such as bonds. He also suggested having greater exposure to gold and some Bitcoin.

"Investors should be 'underweighting debt assets like bonds, and overweighting gold and a bit of Bitcoin,'" he said.
Other cryptocurrencies are also rising
Bitcoin is not the only cryptocurrency benefiting from the rally. Ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency, rose to around $2,500. It has gained more than 30% over the past week. XRP also reached around $1.52 and gained about 50% over the past seven days.
In the past week, Solana's SOL gained about 32%, BNB about 18.7%, XRP about 51.7% and Dogecoin gained about 31.8%.
What does it mean for investors?
Market research firm Fundstrat believes the latest Bitcoin rally may be stronger than a temporary rebound. Some see Bitcoin, like gold, as an asset with limited supply.
Even after crossing $80,000, Bitcoin is still well below its all-time high. Bitcoin reached around $126,000 last year and its current price is still roughly 36% below that record level.
Bitcoin has risen very quickly, so prices could also fall. Investors will now watch whether Bitcoin can stay above $80,000.
