Nvidia Teams Up With Unitree For Advanced Humanoid Robotics Platform

Nvidia Powers Humanoid Robots

Nvidia has selected Chinese robot company Unitree to build the first humanoid robot that will be sold as a complete research platform to universities and researchers.

"Today, we’re announcing the Nvidia Isaac Root, a reference humanoid robot, all fully integrated, 25 degrees of freedom on each hand made by Sharpa, 31 degrees of freedom on the robot, six feet, 150 pounds, just like me," said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in Taipei.

The robot, which uses Nvidia's Isaac GR00T artificial intelligence software, is about 6 feet tall and is designed to move like a human. The system combines Unitree's H2 humanoid robot with Nvidia's powerful Jetson Thor computer, which acts like the robot’s brain.

The Jetson Thor uses Nvidia's advanced Blackwell GPU technology, which gives the robot strong computing power to think, process information, and respond in real time. The robot also includes advanced robotic hands made by Singapore-based Sharpa.

The new robot platform uses all of Nvidia’s software tools together in one ready-made system. This includes everything needed to build and train robots, such as software, data creation tools, and simulation tools, all working together inside one package.

Who can buy H2 humanoid robot?

Nvidia says it built this mainly for universities and researchers because making such a full humanoid robot system from scratch is very difficult and expensive. "We built this for higher education and university researchers, because for them to build this is insanely hard to do," he said.

At least four research centers will use this robot, including Ai2 in Seattle, ETH Zurich, Stanford University Robotics Center and University of California San Diego.

Rev Lebaredian, vice president of physical AI simulation at Nvidia, said more labs will now be able to afford and use humanoid robots.

When will it be available for purchase?

The company’s upgraded humanoid robot called H2 Plus will be available from October, and it will be open for purchase by anyone.

Unitree is planning to raise about 4.2 billion yuan (around Rs 60 billion) by listing its shares on the Shanghai stock market. Unitree also said that more than 40% of its income already comes from outside China.
