Airwallex Raises $320M at $11B Valuation: Fintech Back in Focus

$320M, $11B. Fintech Returns

The race for capital in fintech is heating up (again). After a prolonged funding slowdown, investors are increasingly backing companies that have demonstrated strong revenue growth, scalable business models and a clear path to profitability.

Additionally, Artificial intelligence has added another layer of excitement, with fintech firms now positioning themselves as AI-powered financial infrastructure providers rather than just payments companies.

The latest example is Australian fintech Airwallex, which has raised $320 million in a Series H funding round, taking its valuation to $11 billion.

The fresh capital highlights growing investor confidence in fintech firms that combine global payments infrastructure with AI-driven financial products and could signal renewed momentum for private technology companies eyeing public markets in the coming years.

What is Airwallex?

Airwallex was founded in 2015. It provides businesses with a platform to manage cross-border payments, foreign exchange, multi-currency accounts, corporate cards and embedded finance solutions.

Details of the Funding Round

The Series H funding round was led by Addition, with participation from existing investors including Baillie Gifford, QED Investors, T. Rowe Price, Hedosophia, Hummingbird Ventures, Haun Ventures and Amex Ventures, among others.

The new funding values Airwallex at $11 billion, representing a nearly 38% increase from its previous $8 billion valuation secured in late 2025. The company said the proceeds will be used to expand globally, strengthen regulatory infrastructure and accelerate development of AI-powered financial products.

Strong Growth Backing Investor Confidence

The fundraising comes as Airwallex continues to post rapid growth.

The company reported annualised revenue of $1.3 billion as of March 2026, a 74% year-over-year increase. Annualised transaction volume climbed to $287 billion, up more than 120% from a year earlier. Airwallex also said that over 90% of its revenue now comes from customers using multiple products on its platform, reflecting deeper customer engagement beyond payments alone.

What It Means for Investors

While Airwallex remains privately held, its latest fundraising reflects a broader shift in investor sentiment. Capital is once again flowing toward fintech companies that combine strong financial performance with AI-led innovation and global expansion.

For investors, the deal suggests that the fintech funding market is regaining momentum after a difficult period, particularly for companies building core financial infrastructure rather than consumer-facing apps. It also reinforces the view that AI is becoming a key differentiator in financial services, with investors willing to assign higher valuations to firms that can embed intelligent automation into business finance.

Although Airwallex has not announced IPO plans, its latest funding round strengthens its position as one of the world's most valuable private fintech companies and a potential candidate to watch if public market conditions continue to improve.
